A mixture of 115 parts of 3-[(2-chloro-6-nitrophenyl)amino]-1-propanol and 400 parts of ethanol is hydrogenated at normal pressure and at room temperature with 12 parts of a Raney-nickel catalyst. After the calculated amount of hydrogen is taken up, the catalyst is filtered off and the filtrate is evaporated. The residue is purified by column-chromatography over silica gel using a mixture of trichloromethane and 5% of methanol as eluant. The pure fractions are collected and the eluent is evaporated, yielding 20 parts (20%) of 3-[(2-amino-6-chlorophenyl)amino]-1-propanol as a residue.
