7-Amino-3-[[(1-methyl-1H-tetrazol-5-yl)thio]methyl]-8-oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid, diphenylmethyl ester and L-α-[[[(4-methoxyphenyl)methoxy]carbonyl]-amino]phenylacetic acid from part (a) are reacted in the presence of dicyclohexylcarbodiimide according to the procedure of example 1(b) to yield 7β-[[[[[(4-methoxyphenyl)methoxy]-carbonyl]amino](L-phenyl)acetyl]amino]-3-[[(1-methyl-1H)tetrazol-5-yl)thio]methyl]-8-oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]-oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid, diphenylmethyl ester; m.p. 117° (dec.).
