Reaction Steps

A mixture of 32 g. of methyl 6-difluoromethoxy-2-naphthyl-α-difluoromethylacetate, 10 g. of sodium methoxide, 14 g. of hydroxylamine hydrochloride, and 500 ml. of methanol are allowed to stand for 16 hours. The mixture is then filtered and evaporated. The residue is neutralized by the addition of aqueous 1 N hydrochloric acid and extracted by ether. The ether solution is then washed with water, dried, and evaporated to afford 6-difluoromethoxy-2-naphthyl-α-difluoromethyl acethydroxamic acid.
