Procedure
Benzylamine (1.07 g; 10 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of 2,6-dihydroxybenzoic acid (1.54 g; 10 mmol) in methanol (10 cm3). The mixture was left to stand at 20° C. overnight which resulted in the formation of pale pink crystals. The product was collected by filtration and recrystallized from water to produce white crystals. Found: C, 63.8%; H, 5.9%; N, 5.1%. Calculated for C14H15NO4 : C, 64.30%; H, 5.74%; N, 5.36%. M.pt. 182°-184° C.
