Reaction Steps
1-Amino-2-methylthio-2-imidazoline p-toluenesulfonate (2.123 g) in ethanol (4 ml) was treated with hydrazine (0.67 ml) and stirred at 25° C. for 2 hours. Isopropyl alcohol (6 ml) was added and after stirring for 10 min the crystalline precipitate was filtered out and washed with isopropyl alcohol to give 1.55 g of 1-amino-2-hydrazino-2-imidazoline p-toluenesulfonate, melting point 168°-169° C.
