Procedure
A solution of 3-chloro-4,5-dipropargyloxybenzaldehyde (1.0 g), trimethyl orthoformate (4.0 g) and ammonium chloride (0.05 g) in methanol (20 ml) was stirred under reflux for 3 hours, and the resultant solution was poured into ice-water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was subjected to alumina chromatography using toluene as an eluent to give 3-chloro-4,5-dipropargyloxybenzaldehyde dimetylacetal (0.94 g). nD21.0 1.5344.
