A solution of [[4-[3-[4-[Bis(4-fluorophenyl)hydroxymethyl]-1-piperidinyl]propoxy]phenyl]amino]oxoacetic acid ethyl ester in 50 ml of ethanol is treated with 20 ml of a 2N sodium bicarbonate solution and the mixture is heated at reflux overnight. The mixture is cooled and poured into 500 ml of water containing 10 ml of acetic acid. The resulting solution is collected by filtration and dried to give the title compound.
