A solution of racemic trans-1,1-dimethylethyl [2-(4-bromophenyl)cyclopropyl]carbamate (Intermediate 4) (1.25 g) in 71.5 mL of DCM was cooled to 0° C. TFA (17 mL) was added dropwise and the solution was stirred at this temperature for 1 h. Then the mixture was evaporated in vacuo to obtain 1.83 g of title material as a yellow solid which was used without further purification in the next step.
