Reaction Steps
9-(3,4-Diphenylphenyl)anthracene (3.7 g, 9.1 mmole) was suspended in anhydrous DMF (50 ml). After an anhydrous DMF solution (10 ml) of NBS (1.8 g, 10 mmole, 1.1 eq) was added, the resultant mixture was heated at 55° C. for 5 minutes so that the reaction mixture became a homogeneous solution. The obtained solution was stirred at the room temperature for 4 hours and then left standing for one night. The reaction mixture was diluted with water (50 ml). The formed solid substance was separated by filtration and washed with methanol, and a light yellow solid substance (4.2 g, the yield: 95%) was obtained. The obtained product was identified to be 9-(3,4-diphenylphenyl)-10-bromoanthracene in accordance with 1H-NMR.
