1-(4′-Hydroxybutyl)uracil (0.048 g, 0.26 mmol) was dissolved in dry pyridine (1.5 mL) and cooled in an ice-salt bath. A solution of triphenylsilyl chloride (0.099 g, 0.34 mmol) in dry pyridine (1.5 mL) was added drop-wise. The reaction mixture was kept at 0° C. under nitrogen for 2 h30. CH3OH (15 μL) was added and after 10 min the solution was concentrated on the rotary evaporator. The resultant crude transparent oil was purified by silica gel chromatography using a gradient elution of 0→3% CH3OH in CHCl3. The title compound was obtained as a white solid (0.085 g, 74%) from the fractions with Rf=0.50 (10% CH3OH/CHCl3).
