2-[2-(3,5-Difluoro-phenyl)-acetylamino]-pentanoic acid [1-(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-1H-imidazol-4-yl]-amide (1 equiv) was dissolved in pyridine and treated with methansulfonyl chloride (2.2 equiv) at 0° C. The reaction was warmed to rt and stirred for 4 h, quenched with sodium bicarbonate, and extracted with methylene chloride. The extracts were dried and concentrated to provide methanesulfonic acid 2-(4-{2-[2-(3,5-difluoro-phenyl)-acetylamino]-pentanoylamino}-imidazol-1-yl)-ethyl ester which was used without further purification.
