E1 (385 mg, 1.13 mmol) was dissolved in 14 mL of acetic acid. Bromine (58 μL, 1.13 mmol) was added dropwise. The reaction was stirred for 30 min at room temperature. Water (40 mL) was added into the reaction, and the reaction was stirred for another 30 min generating a white precipitate that was filtered, washed with water and dried to yield E2 (312 mg).
