A solution of 4-(2-isopropyl-5-methyl-benzoimidazol-1-yl)-3-methoxy-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (465 mg, 1.37 mmol) in a 1/1 1N KOH/EtOH solution (10 mL) was heated to 80° C. overnight. The mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by flash chromatography (15/1 CH2Cl2/CH3OH) to yield 2-isopropyl-1-(3-methoxy-piperidin-4-yl)-5-methyl-1H-benzoimidazole (69 mg, 18%) as a white solid.
