Procedure
A solution of {2-[4-(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)phenyl]-1,3-oxazol-4-yl}methanol (0.35 g, 1.2 mmol) in CH2Cl2 was cooled to 0° C., treated with a solution of thionyl chloride (0.37 g, 3.0 mmol) in CH2Cl2, stirred at 0° C. for 3 h and concentrated in vacuo. The resultant residue was partitioned between CH2Cl2 and water. The organic phase was separated, washed sequentially with water and brine, dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated to dryness under reduced pressure to afford the title product, 1HNMR (CDCl3, 400 MHz): 8.25 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 8.17 (s, 2H), 7.67 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 1H), 7.60 (d, J=5.6 Hz, 1H), 7.36-7.38 (m, 3H), 7.26 (s, 1H), 4.61 (s, 2H). LCMS (ESI+) 310 (MH+).
