To a solution of (6-bromo-3-bromomethyl-benzofuran-2-yl) -(2,4-dichloro-phenyl)-methanone (1.1 g, 2.3 mmol) in methanol (4 mL) was added 0.5 M sodium methoxide (252 mg, 4.7 mmol). The reaction was stirred at 50 C for 3 h. The solvent was removed at reduced pressure and the mixture was triturated with methanol, providing (227 mg, 23%) a cream colored solid. 1H-NMR (CDCl3) δ 7.87-7.37 (m, 6H), 5.00 (s, 2H), 3.47 (s, 3H)
