4′-{[4-Butyl-2-(methoxymethyl)-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyrimidin-5-yl]methyl}biphenyl-2-carbonitrile (2.0 g) was dissolved in dichloromethane (20 mL), and 1.0 M boron tribromide dichloromethane solution (1.0 M, 16 mL) was added at 0° C. After stirring at room temperature for 3 hr, water was added, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was crystallized from ethyl acetate and diethyl ether to give the title compound (1.7 g, 86%) as a colorless solid.
