2.79 g (11.4 mmol) of ethyl 4-allyloxyindole-2-carboxylate was added to 8.8 g of N,N-dimethylaniline, and the mixture was stirred for 15 minutes at 200° C. under a nitrogen atmosphere. 2.7 g of a crude product was obtained by adding n-hexane to the reaction mixture and collecting deposited crystals by filtration. This crude product was purified by column chromatography (silica gel, chloroform) to obtain 1.4 g (yield: 50.2%) of the target compound. This compound was recrystallized from a mixture of ethyl acetate and n-hexane to obtain colorless needles of the title compound.
