770 mg of α-(1-ethoxymethyl-5-pyrazolyl)-2,3-dichloro-4-ethoxycarbonylmethoxybenzylalcohol and 1.66 g of manganese dioxide are suspended in 30 ml of methylene chloride, and the suspension is stirred at room temperature for 24 hours. The reaction mixture is filtered and the filtrate is evaporated to remove solvent. The residue is triturated with a mixture of isopropyl ether and hexane to give 703 mg of ethyl [2,3-dichloro-4-(1-ethoxymethyl-5-pyrazolylcarbonyl)phenoxy]acetate as crystals.
