A suspension of 8.20 g of (2,3-dichloro-4-allyloxyphenyl)(1-methyl-5-pyrazolyl)methanone in N,N-dimethylaniline is stirred at 200° C. under argon gas atmosphere for 25 hours and cooled. The reaction mixture is diluted with ether and extracted with an aqueous 5% sodium hydroxide solution. The aqueous extract is washed with ether, adjusted to pH 5-6 with acetic acid and then extracted with chloroform. The organic layer is washed with water, dried and evaporated to give a solid, which is then purified by silica gel column chromatography to give 5.16 g of 6-allyl-2,3-dichloro-4-(1-methyl-5-pyrazolylcarbonyl)phenol.
