Procedure
1 g of methyl 7-(2-benzyloxy-3-cyclopentylphenyl)-6-hydroxy-4-thiaheptanoate (Example 1) is dissolved in 20 ml of an approximately 10% strength solution of ammonia in methanol, and the solution is left to stand in a closed vessel at room temperature for 7 days. The solvent is removed by distillation in vacuo, and the residue is purified by column chromatography on silica gel (mobile phase ethyl acetate/cyclohexane 1:4).
