Reaction Steps

2-Dimethylamino-2-(2-thienyl)butyl 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoate (33.1 g) and L-(+)-tartaric acid (6.3 g) are dissolved in ethanol (200 ml) with heating and the solution is allowed to stand at room temperature overnight. The precipitates are collected by filtration, washed with ethanol and ether, dried and recrystallized from ethanol, whereby (+)-2-dimethylamino-2-(2-thienyl)butyl 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoate·L-(+)-tartarate (14 g) is obtained.
