A stirred solution of (1S,2R,4aR,5R,8S,8aS)-1,8a-dihydroxy-5-isopropenyl-3,8-dimethyl-1,2,4a,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydro-2-naphthalenyl acetate (Preparation 126, 10 g) in 2,2-dimethoxypropane (200 ml) was treated with para-toluenesulfonic acid (700 mg). After 3 days, the solution was concentrated in vacuo and the residue purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel eluting with ethyl acetate:hexane (5:95) to give the product (10.55 g).
