200 mg of the above-prepared 7-chloro-2-n-propyl-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine and 380 mg of methyl 2-(4-bromomethylphenyl)benzoate were dissolved in dimethylformamide, and 50 mg of sodium hydride was added to the solution. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 20 min, and water was added thereto, followed by extraction with ethyl acetate. The extract was dried over magnesium sulfate, and the solvent was distilled off in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (benzene:ethyl acetate=40:1→20:1) to prepare the intended product as a colorless oleaginous substance. The yield was 140 mg.
