1.21 g of 2-[(N-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-valyl)amino]-6-methylbenzoic acid was dissolved in a mixture of 99 ml of methanol and 1 ml of water, followed by adding 200 mg of 10% Pd-C. The mixture was stirred for 3 hours at room temperature under a hydrogen atmosphere. Pd-C was filtered off and the filtrate was concentrated to give 830 mg of 6-methyl-2-(L-valylamino)benzoic acid.
