Procedure
1-allyl-3-methyl-5-iminoimidazolidine-2,4-dione (20.0 g -- 0.12 mol) and 17.7 g (0.12 mol) chloral in 50 ml chloroform were stirred at 25° C. for 1/2 hour. To the resulting solution was added 28.69 (0.24 mol) thionyl chloride. The temperature rose to 35° C. and a precipitate formed. The reaction mixture was heated at 55° C. for 2 hours, cooled and filtered. The filtrate was stripped to give 24 g of 1-allyl-3-methyl-5-(1,2,2,2-tetrachloroethylimino)-imidazolidine-2,4-dione, as a yellow oil.
