Procedure
A solution of 1-cyclopropylethyl 6-(2-phenylacetamido)-2-methyl-2-bromomethylpenam-3-carboxylate (0.5 g.) and pyridine (0.20 g.) in benzene (12 cc) was heated under reflux for 3 hours. After cooling, the benzene layer was washed with water, dried and then concentrated. The residue was subjected to chromatography on silica gel to yield crystals (0.26 g.) of 1-cyclopropylethyl 7-(2-phenylacetamido)-3-methyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylate, m.p. 108° - 112° C.
