Procedure

Condense o-benzoylbenzoic acid (10 g.) and N-ethylethylene-diamine (15 ml.) by the procedure of Example 1 to obtain 1-ethyl-9b-phenyl-1,2,3,9b-tetrahydro-5H-imidazo[2,1-a]isoindol-5-one, m.p. 122°-4° C. (elemental analysis confirms the empirical formula C18H18N2O).
