Reaction Steps
To a suspension of 1-imino-(2-furylmethyl)-2-(3-carbomethoxythioureido)-4-propylthiobenzene (3.77 g; 0.01 mole) in acetone (45 ml) and water (15 ml) there is added 50% aqueous sodium hydroxide (0.79 g; 0.01 mole). Within 15 min. after addition a solution forms and is stirred at room temperature for 30 min. To the solution there is added methyl iodide (1.42 g; 0.01 mole). The mixture is stirred at room temperature for 13/4 hrs. and the suspension that forms is vacuum filtered. The filter cake is air dried to afford 1-imino-(3-furylmethyl)-2-(3-carbomethoxy-S-methylisothioureido)-4-propylthiobenzene (2.65 g; 67.7%), m.p. 96°-98° C.
