A solution of 4-benzyloxy-2-(2-ethoxycarbonylhydrazino)-6-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)-quinoxalin-3(4H)-one (10.9 g; ~25.9 mmol) in a mixture of 200 ml N,N-dimethylformamide and 100 ml water was hydrogenated at atmospheric pressure and room temperature by using 1 g 5% Pd-C as a catalyst. The catalyst was removed by filtration, and the residue was stirred with acetone to give the title compound (7.9 g; 92%). M.p. 216°-218° C. (decomp.).
