Reaction Steps

A solution of 4-(3-aminomethylphenyl)-2-(diaminomethyleneamino)thiazole dihydrochloride (1.5 g) and potassium isocyanate (0.76 g) in water (30 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 8.5 hours. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and then suspended in water (50 ml). The mixture was alkalilied with an aqueous potassium carbonate solution. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration. Recrystallization from a mixture of methanol and diisopropyl ether afforded 4-(3-ureidomethylphenyl)-2-(diaminomethyleneamino)thiazole (0.6 g).
