To a stirred solution of the product from Step A (13.52 g, 42.80 mmol) in 50 mL of dimethylsulfoxide under nitrogen was added lithium azide (2.3 g, 47.10 mmol). The solution was stirred for 2 h. The reaction mixture was then partitioned with 300 mL of ethyl acetate and 200 mL of water. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with 125 mL of saturated sodium chloride, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound as an oil. 1HNMR (300 MHz, CDCl3)δ7.75 (2H, m), 7.47 (2H, m), 7.02 (1H, d, J=8 Hz), 4.94 (1H, q, J=5 Hz), 4.41 (2H, s), 3.80 (3H, s), 2.60 (2H, t, J=6 Hz), 2.30 (1H, m), 2.15 (1H, m), 2.11 (3H, s).
