Procedure

A solution of 7.8 g (0.05 moles) of 3,5-dichloro-2-pentanone with 4.15 g (0.051 moles) of sodium rhodanide in 50 cm3 of ethanol is boiled for 2 hours under stirring. Then the procedure described in Example 1 is followed. 7.7 g (87%) of 3-thiocyanato-5-chloro-2-pentanone are obtained, which is identical in all respect with the product of Example 1 after distillation.
