2,3-Dimethoxy-6-(10-hydroxydecyl)-5-methylbenzoquinone (33.8 g) was dissolved in dichloromethane (250 ml). Trityl chloride (30 g) followed by triethylamine (10 g) was added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Then water (250 ml) containing sodium hydrosulfite (40 g) was added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The organic layer was separated, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain the desired compound (80.4 g).
