Reaction Steps

The intermediate of Example 1, second paragraph (1.0 g, 3.36 mmol), acetic anhydride (0.95 mL, 10.0 mmol), and pyridine (10 mL) were mixed and allowed to stand at room temperature for 24 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered, and the solid was washed with ethyl acetate yielding 0.84 g (76%) of a yellow solid: mp 284°-286° C. (dec); 1H NMR (CDCl3): δ 7.82 (d, 2H), 7.47 (d, 2H), 7.38 (br d, 1H), 4.27 (dq, 1H), 2.02 (s, 3H), 1.25 (d, 3H), 0.99 (s, 9H). IR (KBr): 3358, 2978, 2236, 1804, 1739, 1685, 1614 cm-1 ; MS (m/z) 339 (M+).
