(S)-1-(tert-Butoxycarbonyl)-2-(1,2-epoxyethyl)pyrrolidine (10.0 g) was added to a mixed solution of p-methoxyphenol (11.64 g) and a solution of sodium methoxide in methanol (1M, 47 ml), and the mixture was stirred at 75° C. for 14 hours under heating. The reaction mixture was poured into water and extracted with toluene. The extract was washed with 10% sodium hydroxide and water in order, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent: hexane-ethyl acetate) to give the title compound (8.20 g).
