3(S)-(t-Butoxycarbonyl)amino-6,6-dimethyl-tetrahydropyran-2-one (0.36 g, 1.48 mmol) was dissolved in EtOAc (30 mL) and treated with HCl gas at -50° C. for 20 min and stirred at -30° to -50° C. for 20 min. Argon was bubbled into the soln for 10 min, then the soln was concentrated to give 0.265 g (100%) of the title compound as a white solid. 1H NMR (CD3OD) δ4.05-4.15 (m, 1H), 2.2-2.32 (m, 1H), 2.0-2.15 (m, 3H), 1.48 (s, 3H), 1.43 (s, 3H).
