Procedure

A mixture of 4-[4-(1-ethyl-propoxy)-3,6-dimethyl-pyridin-2-yloxy]-3,5-dimethyl-benzaldehyde (114 mg, 0.41 mmol) and sodium borohydride (63 mg, 1.6 mmol) in 3 ml of methanol was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was quenched with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was dried and concentrated to give yellow oil. The oil was purified through silica gel using chloroform as eluent to give 70 mg of the title compound as a colorless oil. 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ7.04 (s, 2H), 6.32 (s,1H), 4.55 (s, 2H), 4.21 (m, 1H), 2.30 (brs, 1H), 2.22 (s, 3H), 2.21 (s, 3H), 2.12 (s, 6H), 1.73 (m, 4H), 0.91 (t, 6H) ppm.
