Procedure
5-fluoro-2-methyl-1-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzylidene)-3-indenylacetic acid (1.79 g, 4.65 mmol) in methanol (10 ml) is added to a solution of sodium methoxide (0.25 g, 4.65 mmol) in methanol (5 ml). The reaction mixture is stirred for 20 minutes and evaporated to dryness to yield sodium 5-fluoro-2-methyl-1-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzylidene)-3-indenylacetate.
