Reaction Steps

To a suspension of N-acetyl-3-(3,4-diethoxyphenyl)dehydroalanine (100.2 g) in acetic acid (1000 ml) is added 10% palladium-carbon (4 g), and the mixture is subjected to hydrogenation at 40° C. under 3 atms of hydrogen gas for 7 hours. The catalyst is removed by filtration, and the filtrate is concentrated. The residue is crystallized from ether to give N-acetyl-3-(3,4-diethoxyphenyl)alanine (70.1 g).
