Reaction Steps

5 g (21.8 mmol) of N-carboxymethylene-4-chloro-anthranilic acid are dissolved in 40 ml of n-hexanol, 108 mg (1.05 mmol) of concentrated H2SO4 are added and the mixture is heated at 75° C. for 2 hours. The reaction mixture is cooled to room temperature and the product is filtered off with suction. Washing with hexanol and drying gives 5.8 g (19.8 mmol; 91%) of carbohexoxymethylene-4-chloro-anthranilic acid as a pale yellow solid.
