Procedure

1.00 g (2.5 mmol) of N-{2-(3,4-dimethylphenoxy)ethyl}-4-(2-azidoethoxy)-3-methoxyphenylacetamide obtained in step 3 was dissolved in 100 ml of methanol and thereto was added 0.40 g of 10% Pd/C. The mixture was stirred under a hydrogen atmosphere at an ambient temperature for 5 hours. The reaction mixture was passed through a Celite™ layer to remove Pd/C, and the filtrate was concentrated under a reduced pressure to produce a residue, which was recrystallized form dichloromethane/hexane to obtain 0.60 g (yield 64%) of the title compound as a white solid.
