A solution of 2,3-dihydro-6,7-dimethyl-5-[(2-methyl-2-propenyl)oxy]-1H-indole-1-carbaldehyde (25.2 g, 0.103 mol) in N,N-diethylaniline (50 mL) was stirred at 200° C. for 8 hours under the nitrogen atmosphere. The reaction mixture was allowed to stand overnight, diisopropyl ether was added, the crystals were filtered, and recrystallized from ethanol to obtain 20.4 g of the title compound.
