Procedure

The title compound was prepared from 3-methoxyphenol and 3-(3-methoxyphenyl)-2-cyano-acrylic acid ethyl ester by a procedure similar to that described for Example 16 in 0.2% yield. 1H NMR (CDCl3): 7.50 (t, J=8.1 Hz, 1H), 7.32 (d, J=8.7 Hz, 1H), 7.12 (dd, J=8.4, 2.4 Hz, 1H), 7.03-6.96 (m, 2H), 6.90-6.83 (m, 2H), 3.93 (s, 3H), 3.87 (s, 3H).
