A solution of 1-(benzyloxy)-5-[(2-tert-butoxyphenyl)hydrazono]heptane-2,4,6-trione (5.58 g) and triethylamine (9.61 g) in acetonitrile (55 mL) was heated under reflux for 1 hr. After cooling, the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate) to give the title compound (3.52 g).
