Procedure

To a solution of 1-benzyl-4-[4-oxo-3-(1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)pyridazin-1(4H)-yl]pyridinium bromide (0.73 g) in methanol (30 mL) was added sodium borohydride (0.21 g) at 0° C., and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. To the reaction mixture was added water, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with saturated brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The obtained crystals were washed with ethyl acetate and recrystallized from ethyl acetate to give the title compound (0.15 g).
