Reaction Steps

A mixture of ethyl trans-4,5-dimethyl-1-oxo-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-[1,4]diazepino[1,2-a]indole-8-carboxylate (363 mg, 1.2 mmol) and LiOH monohydrate (76 mg, 1.8 mmol) in dioxane:water (1:1, 10 mL) is stirred at room temperature for 6 h. The solvents are removed and water is added. The solution is acidified to pH 5 with 1M HCl and the resulting white solid is filtered and dried to afford the title compound (201 mg, 61%) as a white solid.
