Ethyl 4,4-difluoro-1-oxo-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-[1,4]diazepino[1,2-a]indole-8-carboxylate (470 mg, 1.5 mmol) is suspended in ethanol (17 mL) and 1M NaOH solution (4.8 mL, 4.8 mmol) is added. The reaction mixture is heated at 60° C. for 1 h 50 min. Acetic acid (15 mL) and water (100 mL) are added and the resulting white solid is filtered and rinsed with water to afford the title compound (350 mg, 82%).
