Procedure
To a slurry of Raney nickel (1 g, 10% w/w) in methanol are added tert-butyl 4-[(benzyloxy)methyl]-4-cyanopiperidine-1-carboxylate (10 g, 30.3 mmol) and methanol/NH3 (1 mL). The reaction mixture is stirred at room temperature under 60 psi of H2 for 16 h. Then the reaction mixture is filtered through a pad of Celite and the filtrate is concentrated to afford the title compound (8 g, 79%) as a colorless liquid.
