4N Aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide (10 ml) and water (10 ml) were added to 1-(3,5-dichloropyridin-2-yl)-5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (1.0 g) and stirred at 80° C. for 2.5 hours. The reaction solution was washed with ethyl acetate and 1N hydrochloric acid aqueous solution was added to the aqueous layer at 0° C. The precipitated solid was collected by filtration and washed with water to give the titled compound (680 mg) as a white solid.
