Procedure

10% Palladium-carbon (containing ca. 50% water; 281 mg) was added to a solution of 1-(3-chloro-5-vinylpyridin-2-yl)-5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (567 mg) in 1,4-dioxane (19 ml), and stirred under hydrogen atmosphere at room temperature for an hour. The reaction solution was filtered through Celite and the filtrate was concentrated. The resulting residue was purified with silica gel column chromatography (n-hexane/ethyl acetate) to give 1-(3-chloro-5-ethylpyridin-2-yl)-5-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (459 mg).
